Solid PCD Bits-Aerospace Aluminum SiC Composites Competition

Summary:

Processing material-aluminum silicon carbide, containing 65-70% carbon.

Processing hole size: diameter = 2.6mm, hole depth = 5mm, blind hole.

Processing tool: diamond indexable blade drill.

Drill specifications: The diameter of the drill blade is 2.6mm, the length of the drill blade is 5mm, the diameter of the drill shank is 6mm, and the total length is 50mm, 2Flute.

Customer Question:

Indexable diamond blade drill, can not be repaired, high cost, slow processing efficiency, severe tool damage and serious waste of raw materials.

Each bit can only process 50-60 holes. To complete 1 product is 100 holes, 2 drills are required.

Customer demand:

Increase the life of the drill, improve the processing efficiency of the drill, the drill can be reground.

Solution:

The customer material is aluminum silicon carbide, with a carbon content of 65-70%, which is a hybrid abrasive material. We are familiar with this material.

Lifetime comparison:

The solid PCD full-tip auger drill can drill about 400 holes in aluminum silicon carbide material. The drill can be reground 4-6 times. Based on 4 re-grinding calculations, more than 1,880 holes can be drilled in the aluminum silicon carbide material.

The number of parts processed by the solid PCD full-tip spiral drill for aluminum silicon carbide is 1880 ÷ 100 = 19.

An indexable diamond blade drill can only process 0.5 products and 50 holes.

The overall life of the PCD full-tip spiral drill is 1880 ÷ 50 = 38 times that of an indexable diamond blade drill.

现在客户正在使用的是可转位刀片式钻头,每支钻头只能够加工50个孔。加工完成1件产品需要2支钻头。加工19件需要19×2=38支钻头。成本是13300元。

整体PCD全笔尖螺旋钻头,1支可以加工19件产品,加工1件产品的钻头成本是234元,价格比可转位刀片式钻头便宜3倍。
